Global Computing Programme

To enrich students’ learning experience at a global level, a brand new study abroad programme called “Global Computing Programme” is launched this year to further broaden students’ knowledge and enhance their global outlook. Under this programme, selected students are sponsored to join international summer programmes of renowned universities.

In summer 2018, seven COMP students were admitted to the Engineering Summer Programme of the Girton College, University of Cambridge to learn advanced technologies such as nanotechnology and quantum technologies. Two other COMP students also joined the four-week Vancouver Summer Programme offered by the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.

To take the Global Computing initiative further, a sponsorship is specially set-up under the Global Computing Programme for twelve students admitted via JUPAS with the best academic result in the first semester of year one. They will be granted this Global Computing Sponsorship so that they can apply for the summer programme(s) hosted by overseas universities such as the University of Cambridge.

University of Cambridge, UK - WONG Ka Man

"The Engineering Summer Programme was a four-week study organised by Girton College of the University of Cambridge. I learnt a lot about engineering in the courses provided. I also had the chance to visit Oxford and London on weekends. This programme gave me an extraordinary opportunity to experience Cambridge student life and the British culture."

The University of British Columbia, Canada - YOUNG Chi Chun

"I learnt a lot about the algorithms of the Internet during the Vancouver Summer Programme in the University of British Columbia. At the same time, I also experienced the Canadian culture and the natural environment there. The most important thing was I met many new friends in UBC as well."
