COMP opens Joint Enterprise Data Analytics Lab with IBM to drive Big Data Computing development
The Department and IBM have recently launched a new joint laboratory, namely “The Joint PolyU/IBM Enterprise Data Analytics Laboratory” (EDAL). The opening ceremony of the Lab was held on 27 November 2014 and officiated at by Mr Nicholas Yang, Executive Vice President of PolyU, and Mr Tony Tai, General Manager of IBM China/Hong Kong Ltd.
This is the first big data technology center of IBM in collaboration with university in Hong Kong. The Lab serves COMP with three main objectives: research, teaching and learning, and knowledge transfer. It is a research laboratory working closely with IBM Beijing Research Lab for providing a platform in big data technologies, and focusing on the advance techniques of massive data analysis in enterprises, social media, and education. On the teaching and learning aspect, the lab plays a key role in assisting the curriculum and talent development of data science and big data analytics related discipline in the department. The lab also bridges the relationship between PolyU and industry, and supports knowledge transfer to the communities and enterprises.
