Competitive Research Grant
An important gauge of the Department's achievements in conducting quality research is reflected in our continuous success in securing the highly competitive General Research Funds (GRF) from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.
- Our success rate in GRF applications increased 2-fold from 20% to 50%.
- The total amount of GRF we received increased 4-fold from $1.2M in 1999 to $5.4M in 2008.
- The total number of GRF projects we were awarded increased more than 4-fold from 3 in 1999 to 14 in 2008.
- Our ranking in terms of attracting funds improved by over 14 positions to 1st in the Faculty of Engineering and 2nd in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Competitive Research Grant
As we continue to build on our strong foundation in conducting quality research, the Department is mindful of the need to transfer technology and results to applications that can be commercialized and ultimately benefit the economy of Hong Kong and mainland China. Over the past 8 years, the Department has experienced a quantum increase of 205% in industrial research grants. Noticeably, in recent years, we have partnered with prominent companies in Hong Kong and mainland China to successfully bid for grants from local and national funding bodies, including the Innovation and Technology Support Programme, Guangdong-Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme, University-Industry Collaboration Programme, etc
