Research

The Biometrics Research Centre prides itself for being the forerunner and innovator in biometrics authentication and medical diagnosis in traditional Chinese medicine, providing a biometric knowledge base for industry and technological advancement, and exploring integrated biometric solutions to practical industrial applications. The members of the research team have been working on biometric-related projects for more than 26 years and have obtained over HK$10 million in funding in the last few years.
Highlights of Achievements
- The Biometrics Research Centre developed the world's first palmprint identification system using a proprietary capture device. The system has received a great deal of recognition from
industry and been given several international awards, including a gold medal in an international invention fair, a special gold medal in the China national exhibition of inventions, and a certificate of merit in consumer product design in Hong Kong awards for industry. Additionally, five patents were successfully received from China, Hong Kong, and the United States. - In yet another advance from the Biometrics Research Centre in support of traditional Chinese medicine, the lab takes pride in having become internationally renowned in medical biometrics and in publishing the first papers on a computerized tongue and pulse analysis. The computerized tongue and pulse systems put the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine within reach of more patients and provides practitioners and patients with even greater confidence as to the reliability and accuracy of diagnoses.
