Workshops for JUPAS Applicants
To provide JUPAS applicants with an experience of learning in university, COMP held two workshops on Cyber Security and another two workshops on Virtual Reality (VR) on 29 June which attracted almost a hundred students. Each workshop lasted for half day and students were given opportunities to gain hands-on practice through in-class exercises.
The VR Game Programming workshops taught students the skills for creating an interactive VR application with Google Cardboard. Interesting topics included Projection VR, Cave System, Editor Basics, Game Objects Models and Materials, Scripting Primer, and Interactive Motion Sensing.
The Cyber Security workshops covered the topics on Shift Cipher and Substitution, Cryptography, Encryption Method, Code Breaking, IoT Security, Malware Analysis, etc. Students were also asked to think about how to protect the confidentiality and integrity of network communications as well as prevent users from website tracking.
The feedback from the students were very positive and they enjoyed the classes very much. Most of them agreed that the workshops further enhanced their interests in computer science and information technology.
