Please note that accommodation should be booked separately (as November is peak season in Hong Kong, it is advised to book immediately): see the accommodation page. If you have any questions regarding registration, please send an e-mail to cikm2009@chinatravelevents.com.

Each accepted paper must be accompanied by ONE registration. An author of multiple papers can use the same form. An author presenting a conference and workshop paper should pay both conference and workshop registration fees. For each accepted paper, at least ONE author must register on or before the early-bird deadline.

Member and Student Rates

To qualify for member rates, you must be a member of ACM, ACM SIGIR, ACM SIGWEB. There are discounts for students and ACM/SIG student members. You will need a valid ACM/SIG ID to qualify for ACM member rates. A student will need a valid Full-time Student ID with current registration clearly marked or a letter from their department head certifying student status. Please send your certification materials to cikm2009@chinatravelevents.com.

Terms of Payment

All fees should be paid in advance:

Full payment must be made. Partial payments and purchase orders for future payment will not be accepted. If you pay by telegraphic transfer, your registration will be regarded as incomplete until we have received full payment of your outstanding registration fees.

Terms of Cancellation

Requests for registration cancellation must be made in writing and mailed to the following address:

All requests for refund will be processed and mailed after the CIKM 2009 Conference dates. Refund will be made in accordance with the following schedule:
For cancellation made on or before 31 August 2009, 10% of the total registration fee will be forfeited.
For cancellation made on or before 20 October 2009, 20% of the total registration fee will be forfeited.
For cancellation made after 20 October 2009, no refund will be made.
No refund for authors of accepted papers will be honored in any case.

Partial Registration Fee Refund


For partial refund in registration fees resulting from registration changes (e.g., changing from student non-member to student member), a processing fee of USD 30 will be charged.

All refunds will be processed and mailed following the CIKM 2009 Conference dates.

Visa Support Letter

Please check the specific visa requirements for your country at the Hong Kong Immigration Department web site.

Generally, visas are not required for visitors from most countries. The length of allowed visa-free stay in Hong Kong varies from 14 days to 3 months. All visitors to Hong Kong must have a valid travel document, endorsed where necessary for Hong Kong. These should be valid for at least one month beyond your planned departure from Hong Kong, and in the case of certain nationalities, at least six months.

On request, a formal visa support letter can be issued by the organizing secretariat.  Please send your request to cikm2009@chinatravelevents.com with the following information:

    • Name as it appears on your passport;
    • Residence and a ship-to address if different;
    • An indication that you wish to attend CIKM 2009, even if you are only planning on attending a specific workshop;
    • Registration confirmation number;
    • If you have any papers accepted for the conference, please indicate whether you are the sole author or a co-author, and provide the full title of the document;
