Second International Workshop on
Cooperative Internet Computing

CFP Deadline Extended to
CIC 2002 is in its second time running. This time round, the workshop is organized in
conjunction with the VLDB 2002 conference to be held in Hong Kong, the heart of Asia. The
workshop is organized with strong focus on applying and leveraging Internet and web
technology to support cooperative computing. Cooperative computing is an important
computing paradigm to enable different parties to work together towards a pre-defined
non-trivial goal. It encompasses important technological areas like computer supported
cooperative work, workflow, computer assisted design, databases, and concurrent
programming. Recently, the Internet has brought about a revolutionary change in providing
a unified transport infrastructure for cooperative networking. In particular, remote
computers can now readily participate in a distributed computation, under the framework of
Internet computing. With such a framework, users are able to seamlessly communicate and
interact with each other across geographically separated locations. As technologies
continue to advance and evolve, there is an increasing need to research and develop new
classes of middleware and applications to leverage on the combined benefits of Internet
and web to provide users and programmers with highly interactive and robust cooperative
computing environment. We envision the Cooperative Internet Computing paradigm to become
the de facto approach to cooperative computing in the years to come. We are therefore
delighted to organize this workshop to bring together researchers in all the enabling
technologies towards cooperative Internet computing. Through active collaboration and
exchange of ideas, we anticipate participants to bring out new research elements, and seek
their application towards this interesting and exciting area.
