For the past twenty-eight years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing has been a primary gathering forum for applied computer scientists, computer engineers, software engineers, and application developers from around the world. SAC 2014 is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP), and will be held in the historic city of Gyeongju, known as the Museum without Walls, in Korea. It is hosted by Seoul National University, Kyungpook National University, Soongsil University, and Dongguk University.
The research area of mobile computing has become even more important following the recent widespread drive towards wireless sensor networks, NFC and location tracking technologies and their applications. The various mobile gadgets, generally embedded within small ubiquitous devices, notably in myriads of intelligent smart phones and devices, have paved the way for wearable computers and found their applications in various industries, such as transportation and health-care. The availability of high bandwidth LTE communication infrastructures and the pervasive deployment of low cost WiFi access points help to accelerate the development of mobile computing to provide ubiquitous computing. This is made possible through the use of increasingly powerful hardware handheld devices, many of which now come with built-in Bluetooth and wireless LAN interfaces. Emergence and acceptance of programming standards like AJAX, SOAP/.NET, web services, and different software applications have paved the way for seamless communications across devices. Innovative and useful applications are built riding on the rising mobile and ubiquitous services provided over the cloud, in the realization of the internet of the things. As mobile computing and its applications involve inter-disciplinary research efforts, this is an appropriate track for SAC, in order to draw upon expertise from different areas of researches for better synergy. The unique characteristics and issues present in a mobile computing environment have motivated diverse research areas, spanning from protocols for mobile computing to middleware services to facilitate better integration of mobile services to existing network infrastructure, as well as effective information representation, processing and visualization with small pervasive devices.
The Mobile Computing and Applications track is dedicated to this exciting and evolving area of mobile computing to draw upon research efforts and expertise from different areas of researches for better synergy. We would like to bring forth not only the core technologies driving the research, but also important applied research and applications to realize the benefits of anywhere, anyplace and anytime computing.

Authors are invited to submit original papers in all areas of experimental computing and application development for the technical program via the various tracks hosted by SAC 2014. Submissions fall into the following categories:
Program Committee members from renowned universities with strong expertise in the track focus area will blindly review submissions to that track. Accepted papers will be published in the annual proceedings and ACM digital library. Submission of the same paper to multiple tracks is not allowed. Authors are invited to submit their papers (in postscript or pdf format) via the SAC START submission system with link https://www.softconf.com/d/sac2014/ by September 21, 2013 (the submission system will remain open until 27 September as grace period). The papers must be original work, not previously published, and currently not submitted elsewhere. The author(s) name(s) and address(es) must NOT appear in the body of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. This is to facilitate blind review. Only the title should be shown at the first page without the authors' information. In addition, for each submitted paper, a separated cover page (in plain ASCII) should be sent to sac14mca@comp.polyu.edu.hk including the paper title and full list of authors with full names, affiliations and email addresses. One of the authors must be designated as the primary contact point to receive the notification at the time of the paper submission. Each paper will undergo a formal peer review process on the basis of technical quality, originality, clarity, and relevance to the track topics above. Authors are allowed up to 8 pages, but there will be a charge of 80USD per extra page for any paper with more than 6 pages in the final camera ready. At least one of the authors of the accepted paper must register for the conference and present the paper. Papers and posters NOT presented at conference will NOT be included in the ACM digital library. Submission must be received by Friday, September 27, 2013, but authors should submit their author list and abstract ASAP to facilitate review arrangement.
SAC 2014 also features a new initiative on Student Research Abstracts.
Graduate students seeking feedback from the scientific community on their
research ideas are invited to submit original abstracts of their research
work in areas of experimental computing and application development
related to SAC 2014 Tracks. The
Student
Research Competition (SRC) program is designed to provide graduate
students the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with researcher and
practitioners in their areas of interest.
All research abstract submissions will be reviewed by
researchers and practitioners with expertise in the track focus
area to which they are submitted. Authors of selected abstracts
will have the opportunity to give poster and oral presentations
of their work and compete for three top wining places. The SRC
committee will evaluate and select First, Second, and Third
place winners. The winners will receive cash awards and
SIGAPP recognition certificates during the conference banquet
dinner. Authors of selected abstracts are eligible to apply to the
SIGAPP Student Travel Award program for support. The top
three winners can proceed to the ACM National SRC Program

Submission: Graduate students are invited to submit
research abstracts (minimum of two pages; maximum of four
pages) following the instructions published at SAC 2014
website. Submission of the same abstract to multiple tracks is
not allowed. Submissions must address original and unpublished research work
related to a SAC track (namely, MCA track in this case),
with emphasis on the innovation behind the research idea. The
submission should address the research problem being
investigated, the proposed approach and research
methodology, and sample preliminary results of the work. In
addition, the abstract should reflect on the originality of the
work, innovation of the approach, and applicability of the
results to real-world problems. All abstracts must be submitted
through the START
